Zack Snyder went from the divisive director of films like Watchmen and 300 to a revered filmmaker by a certain sect of DC fans for the mythical Snyder Cut. Well, the myth will become reality when the Justice league Snyder cut releases on HBO Max in early 2021. (March, according to Snyder himself.) but in the meantime, Snyder is doing the marketing rounds promoting the new film turned mini-series. In a recent interview with Comic book Debate, we got some news about Zack Snyder and his plans for a sequel to Justice League. Or the lack of them, to be much more accurate.

Originally, the Justice league story was always expected to be multiple movies. However, the vital and box office reception of the beginning of that vision, Batman V. Superman: Dawn Of Justice, changed things. The long game of a two-part story became consolidated into one movie. then came a personal tragedy, the loss of a child, that even more prevented Zack Snyder from completing his version. With the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice league imminent on HBO Max as a mini-series, numerous are wondering about Snyder’s future in the Warner Bros’ DC film landscape. In a recent interview, Snyder put on the brakes on it all. Kind of.

“As far as what I did and as far as what my vision for what I wanted to finish with these characters and the journey I wanted them to go on, it’s well known that I planned on much more films — five films or something — but I’m busy. I’ve got a lot going on. Is it amazing that the fans have so much faith in the trajectory? Yes, it’s amazing, and I couldn’t be happier and I’m thrilled for them to see Justice league so they can really drink the entire elixir of Justice League. but would I continue? I have no plan to.”

The director Is Still open to opportunities At WB

Despite essentially putting to rest all the rumors, Snyder still offers a ray of hope. After all, ‘S’ stands for ‘Hope’ in some places. While he talks about that he did’t actually get to complete what he set out to finish with the DCEU, he still leaves room for the unknown. “…who knows?” he ends with. which makes sense. The filmmaker said he didn’t plan to get to release his Snyder Cut, in any iteration, much less with an additional $70 Million of reshoots. but here we are in 2021, and it’s happening. So the unknown might be where he sort of thrives. The COVID 19 pandemic made Warner Bros. much more amenable to finishing the film, especially because the lion’s share of the work was in the VFX arena. So, if situations occur that he could continue, the director seems open to it. However, neither he nor DC films has any immediate plans for a competing “Snyderverse” of DC stories.

Honesty Or Diplomacy?

On the flip side, his many ardent fans see Snyder’s comment as the same thing when Joss Whedon’s revamped Justice league released. Snyder never publicly commented or talked down that movie, but over the years, stoked the fan flames of desire to see his own version. From a matter of fact comment about the runtime at a public convention, to releasing unseen BTS stills of his production, Snyder held that his vision was “cooler” but he didn’t openly trash Whedon or the theatrical release. So these comments could easily be that same kind of professional diplomacy. Shrugging off any official future plans, while sneaking in a comment that fans might run with. If the fans remain as vocal as they have been about the Snyder Cut, WB may have a reason to explore giving Snyder his own corner of the recently announced DC Multiverse.

Zack Snyder’s Justice league premieres on HBO Max sometime in March of 2021.

Would you want to see Zack Snyder back at WB for a Justice league sequel? let me know in the comments, or let’s just start a petition, and maybe we can get a jump on it?
